Principal’s News

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a flying start!

To our new families a big WELCOME. My name is Mr Clint Curran and I am the proud Principal of this great school- Edens Landing State School. To our returning families, thanks for being partners in learning with me over the last 3 years. We had a hugely successful 2021 and I look forward with continued excitement for 2022.

Despite the disruptive start, health directives and new ways of working, the connection and commitment from all families has been amazing. Especially our new Prep families. A huge thanks for working with our staff for a great start.

On behalf of our 80 staff, we welcome our 700 students into our school community this week. Our fortnightly newsletters will officially start next week. This is a welcome newsletter with some reminders after week 1.

School pick up-

At the start of every year, it takes a few weeks for all families to navigate their own system to safely pick up their children. This year is no exception and after working at 7 different schools over the last 20 years, our school is not unique in this. For all families of students in year 1-6, a gentle reminder we have 3 different gates for pick up. Also, whilst we don’t have formal staggered finish times, families have the ability to stagger pick up times as we have staff supervision at both stop/drop/go gates until 3.15pm. When I look at the gates at 3.05pm they are predominately vacant. Please be patient, we will work through this.

COVID related-

As directed by the Department of Education we are unable to give any further details than the COVID notification letter, be assured that we at Edens Landing are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of all our students, staff and community. This is why it is important for everyone to follow the school COVID protocols- Any symptoms to stay home and get tested, only return when symptom free and negative test, only prep parents and approved adults onsite.

If a student has tested negative but still has symptoms, we require a letter from the GP to outline they are COVID negative and no longer contagious before returning to school.

Our COVID plan is very clear, for the safety of our students we need to ensure no adults are walking around the school or classrooms. If students are late, families are to drop them at the office only. Our staff will ensure they get to their classroom. Again, please, no adults walking through the school. Current prep parents are approved to go to the MPH and a few parents have been given approval to wait with their child at the office.

A simple check list reminder for our families enrolled at ELSS-

  • Black shoes and white socks- uniform policy
  • Please don't jump over the side fence with your child- Code of Conduct
  • Start payment for student resource scheme (SRS) for your child to have the resources for learning- enrolment form
  • Conservative haircuts with no mullets or rats tails, hair on collars or face to be pinned or tied back- uniform policy
  • Connect with your child's teacher via seesaw- Link sent directly from classroom teacher.
  • If away from school, notify office or respond to the absence SMS - office@edenslandingss.eq.edu.au
  • To be formally counted as enrolled at ELSS in 2022 your child must attend school in the first 8 days or advise office circumstances.
  • Talk, role model and practise the behaviour of our 3 PBL expectations SAFE, RESPECTFUL and LEARNER.

Thanks for your support and the flying start we have made in 2022. We value your input so please reach out with questions or feedback.

Yours sincerely

Clint Curran
