Principal’s News

Dear ELSS parents, carers and community,

Congratulations on being partners in learning during an extremely challenging first half to the year. We have overcome many challenges and changes to education. My mantra during this time is- “We get it right or we learn”. On behalf of all the 80 staff at Edens Landing State School, I hope you have a wonderful school holiday, stay safe and enjoy the opportunity to refresh. Our 700 students have successfully worked through different learning challenges. Congratulations and thanks for being partners in learning.

As I write this newsletter, we have just completed a full school review with the School Improvement Unit (SIU). They spoke to over 20 community partners, 30 parents, 50 students and 70 staff to provide us with independent feedback, tailored to our context and needs. I will receive the report next term and share with the community. Thanks to those people who were involved in the process. As the reviewers left, they wanted to acknowledge the huge culture shift at the school over the last 15 months. They have heard about our journey and believe we are heading in the right direction to ‘Soar to Success”

REMINDER-

We have sent SMS about participating in this year’s School Opinion Survey and having a say about schooling during the COVID-19 lockdown. You are also given the opportunity to provide feedback about our school more generally.

Participation in the survey is anonymous and you are encouraged to take this opportunity to have your say. The survey form has been designed so that it can easily be completed on a computer or smartphone. The online survey will be available until Friday, 17 July 2020, and should take less than five minutes to complete.

To access the survey, please click on the link below or copy and paste it into your web browser:

https://survey.qed.qld.gov.au/form/Parents-HaveYourSay

Please contact the school if you have any questions about the survey.

UPDATE-

As from Term 3, ELSS will enforce the School uniform policy. If a child is out of uniform, they will receive an infringement notice to take home to their family. We have made huge improvements with our school uniform expectations. ELSS uniform- Navy jumper/jacket, White socks and Black Shoes. Please support this with your next purchase of jacket, socks and shoes to align with the school uniform policy. High expectation in student uniform supports- Safety, cost, confidence, school spirit, saves time, reduce distraction, encourages discipline and high school ready.

Term 3 response to COVID-19

Continue- : Washing hands regularly Covering coughs and sneezes Throwing away used tissues Staying at least 1.5 metres away from anyone who is sick Staying at home if you're sick. ELSS have extra cleaning time. Student wash hands before each session. No adults onsite unless a meeting has been approved by the school. Gates open at 8.30am. No cash onsite.

Change- We will stop the staggered finish of the day next term, to allow all classes a full day of learning. The process of Prep and Year 1 parents on the netball courts at 2.30pm will finish. This means Prep and Year 1 students will no longer be walked to the front gate. ELSS staff will be deployed to ensure students transition from classroom to the gates. This will require all families to discuss how they pick their child/ren up after school. All 3 gates will be open. You can use the exit that best suit your family. We encourage families of Prep and Year 1 students to advise their teacher what gate they are directing their child/ren to.

The schools 2020 Focus is- An aligned culture of professional learning for EVERY student to succeed at ELSS. Our strategies include:

  1. Mindset of BETTER- Partners in learning.
  2. Whole school Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) alignment
  3. Professional Learning Teams- supporting English across the school.
  4. Culture Foundations: Positive Relationships & High Expectations.
  5. Literacy P-2 foundations. The goal is unleashing literacy for every student for a life of choice not chance. Literacy opens doors, provides opportunities and sets up success.

Have wonderful school holiday. Thanks for support
