We pay our respects to Elders, past, present & emerging and recognise their continuing connection to Country and ways of learning over thousands of years.

Principal’s News

Hi ELSS families and community,

2020

We have been working hard to ensure our students have a strong finish to 2019 and are prepared to move forward into 2020 with the necessary skills and confidence to do so. Our teachers have been thoughtfully reporting on student’s progress against the Australian Curriculum over the last semester. As a school we have also been working hard to ensure that students are placed into classes for 2020 and that we have the necessary staff to cater for our predicted enrolment.

Additionally at this time of term 4 we reflect on our achievements and look at our data to inform of our focus areas for 2020. We use information from a range of sources:

  1. School Opinion Survey which tells us how some parents/carers, staff and students feel about various aspects of Edens Landing State School
  2. Level of Achievement Data (A-E);
  3. Reading level data;
  4. NAPLAN results which are used to ensure that our curriculum is aligned to our student’s needs; &
  5. Absence data; relative gain data; behaviour data and any information that can inform the next step in our school improvement journey.

This information is used to form our annual school plan and also helps us to keep the community informed of our progress as a school. Information like the above mentioned is regularly shared at our P&C meetings. I would encourage you all to attend our P&C meetings and be actively involved in our great school.

School Culture

The photos above demonstrate our positive relationships and high expectations in action. From learning and growth in class – achieving through new technologies – supporting the Fire fighters…. We are a great school in a great community.

Attendance

Watch out for the 95 club celebrations. I will be inviting all students with 95% attendance or above for a celebration activity.

Remember- learning starts at 8.50am so don’t be late. The impact on the whole class when students walk in late is major. We realise that many things can interrupt our morning routines. Thanks for understanding.

EVERY student succeeding with our term 4 changes-

WARNING BELL- With 5 minutes to go at each break, a warning bell will sound for students to go to the toilet, get a drink then line up for learning.

MAXIMISE LEARNING- From 8.50am-11am EVERYDAY is uninterrupted learning time. Learning starts every day at 8.50am, so don’t be late!!

ASSEMBLY change- to maximize learning, we have moved the Friday assembly to 2.15pm.

Thanks for supporting- EVERY student succeeding.

School opinion survey results

The below data from all stakeholders tells a clear picture- we are a school moving forward. This data helps shape our planning and celebrating success.

Some questions that I have found positive when I get home to my children-

Thank you for your welcome in 2019. I thank you in advance for supporting the school improvements in 2020.

Deputy Principal’s News

The Jacarandas are in full bloom, which signals the rapidly approaching end of the school year.

Our school is one of the most beautiful schools I have ever seen, especially at this time of year. 2019 has been a huge year filled with many wonderful educational and fun filled experiences for our students and staff. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents and friends who come, help, and support our school. A big thank you also goes to the staff who work tirelessly to ensure every student gets the very best possible outcome and to the students who come to school with a smile and willingness to learn. Our school community is certainly a wonderful place in which to raise our children.

As this is the last newsletter for the year, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and peaceful holiday break, full of family and fun. I look forward to seeing you all again in 2020.

YEAR SIX NEWS

Graduation for Year 6 Students 2019

We had a great response to the graduation packs again this year, if you forgot to purchase your child’s graduation pack (which includes the tickets to attend graduation) please contact the office immediately. It is our goals each year to have every year 6 attend graduation. This is a big event for our Year 6 students who are very excited to be have their graduation in our hall followed by a disco. If you are having financial difficulties, please speak to the office staff as soon as possible.

Confirming the dress code for graduation: Smart casual (not formal) - School appropriate attire is expected: No midriffs, low cut dresses/tops, short skirts, high heels or excessive make up for the girls. Boys should be dressed neatly, suits are not appropriate but a collared shirt is required (No tee-shirts and board shorts please). It is fun for our Year 6 students to dress up on their special night; however we ask that parents keep the occasion in perspective. This is a Year 6 graduation, not a Year 12 formal.

Once again, Queensland School Photography will be taking photos at the senior graduation evening. Photos will only be taken between 4:00pm and 5:30pm at the Year one block prior to the night commencing. These photos can be individuals, family or friends photos. Photos are printed straight away in a 6 x 8” size and are available for purchase only on the night.

Year 6 Big Day Out

As is our Tradition, our Year 6 students will be having their “Big Day Out” on Wednesday the 11th of December. This year we will be heading to Movie World for a day filled with rides and adventure. This is an exciting day and one that will create many memories for our senior students. If you missed the payment date but your child has a pass for this venue, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Students must wear Full School Uniform, Closed in shoes and a hat to attend this excursion.

High School Transition Days- please notify ELSS if your child is attending transition days for high school to avoid an unexplained absence being recorded.

Uniform – Please ensure all students remain in full school uniform right through to the last day of term. Students are not permitted to have others sign the uniform they are wearing at any time. If students wish to have their peers sign their shirt, they are to bring an additional shirt to school to have it signed. As has been the case in the past, students who get their shirts signed will be given a loan shirt, if one is available, from the office or will be asked to turn their shirt inside out for the day.

YEAR 5 NEWS

The 2020 student Leaders selection process is well underway. Students have been shortlisted and interviews and speeches for School Captain have taken place. Sports Captain selection will take place next week. All successful applicants will be notified before the end of the year.

Year 6 Camp 2020. So that parents can plan ahead, we have sent home Year 6 2020 camp notes this term. Parents will be able to pay up front or pay a little over a longer time. There has been a change in venue to decrease the travel time and increase the time students spend engaging in exciting activities. The shift in venue has also resulted in a significant decrease in cost. We hope to see as many students attend as possible. If you are unable to make the payment deadlines please speak to the school before the payment deadline date.

UNIFORM

As the year moves closer to the end, we are seeing an increasing number of students wearing non-uniform items to school with their uniform. Large bows, ribbons and hair clips, jewellery (other than sleepers/studs, watch or religious or cultural relic), board shorts, undershirts which can be seen, extra-long socks which come above mid-shin, and non-uniform shorts/skirts are not permitted. Please ensure that your child wears school uniform every day. This shows pride in their school and respect for the rules.

It has also been noticed that many young ladies are wearing skirts which are very short with a significantly high split at the front. Please ensure that all skirts are long enough to afford the wearer the appropriate degree of modesty. Just because the skirt is attached to sports briefs, does not make it appropriate to wear.

Chappy Trish News

Hi everyone,

I can’t believe we have come to the end of this 2019. It has been a great to think back on the year and see so many great achievements of the children.

I have enjoyed running programs within the school and getting to know the families and staff here at Edens Landing State School better.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff, and families for your support and trust throughout the year. A great deal of what I do in school cannot be achieved without you and your co-operation and backing.

Next year I will be continuing the programs that are already in place such as breakfast club, SUPA Club and Chic Chat. However Chic Chat will run in term 1, 2 and 3 as interest has grown and I can only take around 6, year 6 girls per term. Please let your daughters teacher know next year if you would like her to be involved in this program. If you would like to know more about the program please contact the office and leaving contact details and I will get back to you.

Finally, I would like to wish all the year 6 students who are leaving us, the very best on their new journey into high school education. I know that they have all had a great start here at Edens Landing and know that they will go on to achieve great things in the future.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and holiday break and I look forward to seeing you all again in 2020.

Chappy Trish
